Brocken Rock Falls lives in a small side tributary of Old Man's Creek, just below Lower Falls of the Old Man's Cave area of Hocking Hills State Park in Hocking County, Ohio. The waterfall tumbles down a fractured, eroded cleft in the Blackhand sandstone cliff. The dark shadows of the rock overhangs make the brilliant water seem even more lively in all but the dimmest of lighting conditions.

Broken Rock Falls is a special niche in the landscape best experienced very early in the day, before the main horde of tourists make their way down from the main parking lot. Only the most callous could stand alone in this dark slot and not feel the power of the ancient rock, the cool dark forest overhead, and the continually reborn waters that fall from the hills above..

Photo location: Old Man's Cave unit of Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio.
