Whitefish Point Lighthouse and Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, Michigan
This photograph of Whitefish Point lighthouse on Michigan's Upper Peninsula was made in October of 2002. This cluster of buildings is also home to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.
Whitefish point is known as the Graveyard of Ships, because more have been lost here than anywhere else on Lake Superior. It was near here that the huge ore freighter Edmund Fitzgerald went down in 1975, the subject of the classic Gordon Lightfoot song Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
