The village of Madaket lies at the extreme western end of Nantucket. Remote but nevertheless close to town (the entire island is only twenty miles long, west to east), Madaket is quiet, sleepy, serene. No stores or restaurants. Its small harbor area invites knowledgeable boat owners who don't want to deal with the big harbor in town.
On this calm summer evening, the Public Landing on Hither Creek enjoys the peace of windlessness. The still waters reflect the blue sky, docks, boats, and shoreline salt marsh grasses.
