Fall Foliage Colors, Hocking Hills from Ash Cave Lookout Tower, Ohio

A panoramic view to the south or southeast of the fall foliage colors of the beautiful Hocking Hills region of southeast Ohio, as seen from the Ash Cave fire lookout tower in Hocking Hills State Park, near Logan, Ohio.

In this photo, made on a clear early October day, the fall colors have yet to reach their peak. It was mid week, and no one was around. Very peaceful.

The Ash Cave lookout tower isn't located at the main parking area at the Ash Cave unit of Hocking Hills State Park. Instead, it's on top of the ridge above the cave. You have to hike the trail well to the north of Ash Cave to get to it. The tower, which is still climbable up to just underneath the locked lookout cabin, is easily accessible by a nearby highway, although there are no signs announcing that it's there. You just have to do a bit of exploring.

Photo location: Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking County, Ohio.
