Leaf on Waterfall Lip, Fossil Creek, Ohio

I was photographing Fossil Creek one day below the Nature Center in Germantown MetroPark. Fossil Creek, a primary headwaters stream, is named for the limestone rock layers, containing countless fossils, that make up its streambed. The rock layers make a series of stairstep waterfalls down the draw, before joining the main valley at Twin Creek.

The water was fairly low and clear in the fall, barely going over the waterfall lip. A beech leaf had drifted down the stream, and was caught on the edge, the water swirling around and over it, reflecting the sky where it was visible between the tree crowns.

Photo location: Germantown MetroPark, Montgomery County, Ohio.
