On a very long, sweaty, and amazing spring desert hike along a portion of the Tonto Trail below Grand Canyon's South Rim, I stopped to photograph these glowing yellow wildflowers.
It had been a very snowy winter in Grand Canyon, and despite a dry spring, the residual ground moisture and cool weather was very favorable for the desert plants to bloom.
This photo stopped me in my tracks because of the deep shade behind many of the bright yellow flowers and their flower stalks. A small ravine lended some diagonal composition as well.
Photo location: Tonto Trail between South Kaibab Trail and Indian Garden on the Bright Angel Trail, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
