The late summer of 2010 was a verdant one in northern Arizona. The monsoon season rains came early and were plentiful. With all the extra moisture, the hills and mountains around Flagstaff stayed green right through August. The wildflowers were loving it.
In this image, a mountaintop meadow had exploded with sunflowers. The late afternoon sun lit up the meadow, while the background hills and mountains in shadow provided a nice touch of contrast.
Photo location: Coconino National Forest, north of Flagstaff, Arizona.
